Not Of This World

“Knowing with all certainty that it is from the Lord, and not from men, that you will receive the inheritance which is your real reward. The One Whom you are actually serving is the Lord Christ.” Colossians 3:24 Amp

When Jesus told Pilate that His Kingdom was not on this earth, He gave us clear indication of what we should aspire to. We work ourselves to a frazzle trying to “get ahead”. Ahead of what? We’re here for a purpose given to us by God. It’s about serving God by serving others.

I. Jesus Establishes His Kingdom

Isaiah 9:6,7 His Kingdom government shall never end

Matthew 16:21-23 Jesus tells the disciples of His purpose

John 13:3-8 His Kingdom would comprise servant attitude

Matthew 5:38-43 Go the extra mile; do the right thing

* the Kingdom of God is completely opposite to that of the world

* the goal of the Kingdom of this world is to control the people

who live under it’s authority and are indebted to it

* the attitude of this world is all about having power over others

II. Earthly Kingdom Is All About Me

* selfish ambition vs servant heart

Philippians 2:3,4 see what you can do to help others in need

Romans 15:1-3 Jesus taught us to care for others

* the world is resistant to the life transforming power of Jesus Christ

III. Our Example Is Jesus Christ Himself

* Jesus never looked out for just Himself or/ His own interests

* they beat Him, mocked Him, spit on Him, crucified Him, and

all He did was pray, “Father forgive them ...”

Matthew 5:3-11 the servant attitude will be rewarded

* swords & threats vs service & love

2 Corinthians 10:3,4 our motives are different than the world’s

1 John 4:7,8 the pattern of love and help for others is of God
