Call To Service

“He creates each of us by Christ Jesus to join him in the work he does, the good work he has gotten ready for us to do, work we had better be doing.”               Ephesians 2:10  Msg

If learning and serving were a priority for Jesus, it should be for us as well.  Worrying about being good enough is self centered.  If we see ourselves as servants, we will be God focused and dependent upon the Holy Spirit for instruction and strength.

Read Luke 2:40-52

B.G.  Joseph and Mary headed home not realizing that Jesus was still behind in Jerusalem.  After three days they found Him in the Temple sitting among the teachers and scholars.  Scolding Him; Jesus reminded them of His work to do for His Father.

I.  v49  Doing The Father’s Work

*  I must be about my Father’s business

*  that sums up the Christian life and the work we are called to do

*  are you more concerned about your own business than God’s?

II.  v51  Changing Your Priorities

*  Jesus,12, was in the Temple, not outside playing in the courtyard

Philippians 3:7  life is not about me, it’s about God

*  Joseph and Mary had their own definite schedule about leaving

*  Jesus  could not keep their schedule- He was on His father’s

*  maybe someone needs your help- right now, not later

*  there might be some way God wants you to work in His church

*  nowhere do we find that Jesus was too busy to help someone

John 4:3-7  the woman at the well found the “Living Water”

III.  v52  Your  Life Will Be About Serving Others

Philippians 2:5-9  we must be of Jesus’ mind set

*  be a giver- not a taker-  what can you do to help?

*  grow through serving others

Matthew 26:37-39  even through great difficulty

Luke 12:27-31  God will provide your needs to serve

Being about the “Father’s Business” is a lifestyle, not just a phrase
