The Wise Men’s Obedience

  “In that day the nations will turn to the One from the family of Jesse. He will be honored by the people as someone special to see. And His place of rest will be full of His shining-greatness.”

 Isaiah 11:10 (NLV)

The Magi who searched for the newborn King were God fearing Gentile Wise Men from Persia who had been influenced by the Jews.  The fact that they undertook such a difficult and long journey in order to worship the new “King of the Jews” suggests that they also believed in the God of the Jews.  The Magi followed the directions of God to find Jesus and then submitted to Him as their King.  We would do well to also listen to God’s voice and wisdom for direction in our own lives !

I.   v 1-3,6  God would provide the source of Hope

 v. 3  King Herod was troubled and therefore so was everyone else

            Micah 5:2  prophecy of where “King Jesus” would be born

            Isaiah 9:6,7  the awesome credentials of this newborn King

*  The Magi were looking forward to the coming of the King of the Jews because God had told them He was coming!

II.  v 8,9,12  God is the source of wisdom 

*  God used an unusual star He had created for this very purpose

*  because Jerusalem was the Jewish Capital it was natural for the wise men to inquire where this new King of the Jews could be found

*  Herod lied to the Magi of his intention to also worship the King

*  God guides us by the Bible into our close relationship with Him

III.  v 11  Jesus is the fulfillment of Hope 

*  some months later they found the young child Jesus in a house

*  Gold is for His royalty

*  Frankincense is for His deity  (a spiritual offering)

*  Myrrh is for His humanity and the ointment for suffering

            Philippians 1:19-21  our hope is in the Spirit of Jesus Christ

            Romans 15:11-13  we are to abound in hope

The Magi demonstrated their faith in God by bringing Jesus gifts.  We have gifts to give Him as well.  The Wise Men were lead by God; and He will guide you too- everyday of your life.  Seek Him today !
