Merciful Savior

  “He carried our sins in His own body when He died on a cross. In doing this, we may be dead to sin and alive to all that is right and good. His wounds have healed you!”           1 Peter 2:24  NLV

        We have a compassionate God; to whom we have access thorough His Son Jesus Christ.  No matter how deep our despair or how dark the hour, we can have peace by knowing the “Prince Of Peace”.  It is comforting to know Jesus is our advocate and intercessor for all our guilt and sin.

Read:  Psalms 6:1-10

I.  v1-3  Our Struggle

*  notice David’s extreme spiritual struggle with his guilt

*  our bad behavior will always bring God’s consequences

*  we must realize that in God’s eyes, we have done wrong

            Isaiah 53:6  we all like sheep, have gone astray

            Romans 3:23-25  everyone has sinned

*  we really should incur God’s wrath-  we are at His mercy

II. v4-7  Our Hope

            1 Peter 5:6,7  we must cast all our cares upon Him

*  it does no good to beat up on ourselves in anguish

*  He asks us to repent for our sin and guilt and receive His mercy

          Psalms 5:1-3  simply ask Him to hear our plea for forgiveness

            Joel 2:12,13  go quickly to God in repentance

*  do not let sin and guilt make a slave out of you-  that’s satan’s ploy

          Psalms 126:5,6  our contrite tears before God will bring us joy

*  because we are His children, He will have mercy on us !

III.  v8-10  Our Savior

            Psalms 35:9,10  we can once again have a spirit of rejoicing

*  the Lord accepts our sorrow and promises to forgive our guilt

*  God answered David’s repentant cry for mercy

*  because of Jesus, God loves with an infinite love  (agape love)

            Isaiah 53:1-5  He has borne our sorrows and grief

Yes, we are spiritually healed because of the stripes laid upon Him !
