EMMANUEL:  Human Yet Divine

“Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Emmanuel.”        Isaiah 7:14 NKJV

Sometimes we say “words can’t express...”;  sometimes names have specific meanings.  In this case, God gives Mary and Joseph the specific name of their baby because He was going to be with us- the untouchable yet approachable God!  Human, yet Divine

Read Matthew 1:18-25

Some of the names in the Bible which refer to our Lord Jesus  are:

Son of God, The Lamb of God, The Light of the world, The Resurrection and the Life, The Bright and Morning Star, Alpha and Omega

I. v21  The Angel Said, “Call Him Jesus”  : Savior

*  Jesus; a common name: O.T. Joshua, Jeshua, N.T. Col.4:11, Acts 13:6

Why Jesus?  because God became human

John 1:14  the Word became flesh

*  Jesus was touchable & approachable, He was a friend to sinners

Hebrews 2:14  through His death we have life

John 17:1-3  ...that He should give eternal life...

II.  v23  The Implications

Isaiah 7:14  the Lord shall give you a sign...

*  God chose to reveal Himself to mankind through a human body

            Isaiah 9:6  ...The everlasting Father

Isaiah 53:5,6  He was broken for us

John 1:10-13  He was in the world....the world knew Him not

Why would we want to be distant from Jesus when He longs to be a real, living part of our lives ?!

“Now that we know what we have— Jesus, this great High Priest with ready access to God— let's not let it slip through our fingers. We don't have a priest who is out of touch with our reality. He's been through weakness and testing, experienced it all—  all but the sin. So let's walk right up to him and get what he is so ready to give. Take the mercy, accept the help.”         Hebrews 4:14-16  Msg
