Jonah :  God’s out of touch servant

Jonah 1-4
Three things to observe about Jonah :
1)  He is out of touch with his surroundings
2)  He is out of touch with the message
3)  He is very in touch with his own comfort

Jonah was greatly displeased and became angry !
          *  God’s message - If you repent and return to me, then I will  have fellowship with you -

three times  throughout the book, Jonah is called to do
3 things:  1)  Arise 1:2,6 ;   2) Go  3:2 ;   3) Cry (repent) 2:2; 3:3

Are we like Jonah?  Matt. 13:13-17  “...seeing me, ye do
not see... “     Balaam messed up too -  Numbers 22-31
1 Cor. 10:11   these things happened as examples
Balaam:      1) allowed greed to dwell in his heart
                        2) tried to manipulate instead of obeying God
                        3) hung around with the enemy
                        4) spoke the truth, but didn’t apply it to himself
Jonah:        1) do not run from the problem or/ assignment
                        2) doubted the power of God
                        3) he was judgmental of God’s creation
                        4) didn’t have the heart of God

God’s compassion exhibited  4:10 ,11

The book of Jonah ends with the essence of the message and yet, leaves the question hanging, unanswered -   How will you answer it ?
It’s all about personal obedience and relationships and an ongoing relationship with the Lord!
