Foundation Fundamentals

        Therefore thus says the Lord GOD, “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a tested stone, a costly cornerstone for the foundation, firmly placed.  He who believes in it will not be disturbed.”   Isaiah 28:16 NASV

     Recently, we witnessed the devastation of Galveston Island.  Much of the loss was suffered by homes built upon the sand.  The Lord taught us to build upon the firm foundation.  Faith in His Word is that foundation.  But, it’s not just in hearing the Word only- it’s in doing of the Word.

      Warn the rich people of this world not to be proud or to trust in wealth that is easily lost. Tell them to have faith in God, who is rich and blesses us with everything we need to enjoy life.     1 Timothy 6:17 CEV

Read Matthew 7:24-27

I v24,25  Wise Builder   

*  some parables were true stories taken from daily life

*  they were intended to give us examples to follow or avoid

            Luke 6:47,48  dig your foundation deep

            Psalms 125:1,2; 127:1   build upon the Lord

            Luke 14:28-30  it’s in the foundation not the structure

*  Leaning Tower Of Pisa took 176 years to build-  however,

 it leans 18 feet off center now because of its poor foundation

            Hebrews 11:1  build in anticipation of storms

*  Jesus’ words are foundational-  build upon the fixed Rock

II. v26,27 The Disappointed Builder  

*  if you just listen to the words, and don’t fit them into your life

 you are like the sorry builder when the storms rolled in

            1 Corinthians 10:12,14  pay attention to details

            1 Timothy 6:9,10  building by your own plans is foolish

*  life has a way of invading our seemingly ‘peaceful’ domain

*  what we thought was a well built life-  gets shattered in a moment

*  when the pressure and storms do come- the outcome is

 largely determined what our foundation is built upon   1 Peter 2:4-8

*  building upon anything else than what Jesus taught will bring sure destruction to what we hold so dear and worked so hard for
