Carry One Another’s Burdens

“So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.” Galatians 6:10 ESV

9/11 once again reminded us that we can not face difficulties and tragedies alone. When we see the result of hurricanes that slam into the Gulf Coast and tornadoes which tear apart towns in the Midwest, we want to do something to help. So it is with a spiritually hurting brother or sister, as the family of God, the Bible teaches us to help them as well.

Read 2 Corinthians 11:24-31

I Going beyond Mere Empathy

Galatians 6:2 get involved

* helping, lifting, carrying, sharing the burden

Romans 15:1 forgetting our own needs- help others

Mark 12:30,31 doing so, fulfills the law of Christ

Matthew 27:28-32 Simon helped Jesus carry His cross

2 Corinthians 1:7-11 Paul recalls the help extended to him

* therefore, acts of love and kindness complete the Law of Christ

II. We All Face Troubles

* setbacks, and difficulties in a career, home, marriage are common

* health & life issues can be set backs too

1 Samuel 19:1-5 Jonathan looked out for his friend David

Ephesians 1:15,16 Paul was happy to hear of help given

Philippians 1:3-6 Paul’s teaching was put to use

* asking for and giving help aren’t always an easy thing to do

2 Corinthians 4:7-11 living in Christ makes it possible

* we are encouraged to open our hearts to God for help
