Batteries Included

“God Himself made the way so you can have new life through Christ Jesus. God gave us Christ to be our wisdom. Christ made us right with God and set us apart for God and made us holy. Christ bought us with His blood and made us free from our sins.” 1 Corinthians 1:30 NCV

When we buy a new electronic item, often times the package says in fine print, “batteries not included”. It means that you get the toy, calculator, alarm clock, or whatever, but the power to make it work is not included. God’s gift of salvation includes the power and fullness of the Holy Spirit- the power “battery” to make it work. God has empowered us by His Holy Spirit to live a new kind of life.

v13-16 I. Holiness

* God wants us to live like we are saved- to live our lives differently

1 Corinthians 6:9-11 our sinful past is behind us- leave it there

2 Cor. 5:17 the old life is gone; replaced by a Holy Life

Romans 6:6,7 salvation is a transformation; from death to life

* holiness is consecration- to be set apart to God for His purpose

* you can not make yourself holy- holiness comes by salvation

* to be made holy, is to be sanctified-

* neither can you sanctify yourself- that’s how God makes you holy

v2. II. Sanctification

* sanctification is simply the process of being made holy

* it is the Holy Spirit who does this work- not by our own effort

* to be empowered- to be wholly consecrated unto God

1 Corinthians 15:21,22 as in Adam all were born to die...

Ephesians 2:4-7 God sees us positionally in Christ as holy

Colossians 3:1-3 live differently- don’t focus on this world

*v14 we must choose to be obedient to God’s working within us

Romans 6:1,2 we don’t have to live our lives as slaves to sin

* we have been set free to live for Christ- and a life pleasing to God

* sanctification and holiness then, give us control over our sinful nature

* the batteries are included in this package!
